5/10/2023 0 Comments Farewell my lovely 1940Marlowe pursues his investigation but plenty of people try to stop him. Log-line: Los Angeles private eye Philip Marlowe is hired by paroled convict Moose Malloy to find his girlfriend Velma, former seedy nightclub dancer. The film is set in 1941 and to me it feels like it'd have been better to have the movie presented in black and white but this is a neo-noir in colour not a classic film-noir from the 1940s. There's some great dialogue and Film-(neo)Noir patter which as you can imagine is expertly delivered by Mitchum. It seems the better performance and film is this one Farewell, My Lovely. This is the first time that Mitchum plays Marlowe, he'd play the private detective again three years later in the remake of The Big Sleep (1978). Adaptation of the 1940s novel by Raymond Chandler with Mr Robert Mitchum as the gumshoe Philip Marlowe.
